El dólar y el yen subían el viernes y el euro cedía terreno junto con las divisas con tipos de interés más altos al bajar el interés por las posiciones de mayor riesgo ante la persistente incertidumbre por la evolución de la economía global.
El euro cedía a su nivel más bajo en tres semanas frente al yen y su mínimo en cuatro meses contra la libra por ventas para limitar pérdidas, por las preocupaciones sobre los déficit públicos y rumores, posteriormente desmentidos, de que la canciller alemana Angela Merkel podría dimitir.

El euro perdía también terreno contra el dólar, tocando un mínimo de 1,4406 dólares aunque recuperaba algo de terreno después de que un portavoz del Gobierno alemán desmintiera rumores sobre una posible dimisión de Merkel.
