Egipto y Jordania convocaron hoy a los representantes de Israel en sus respectivas capitales para comunicarles su protesta por el asalto a la flotilla de ayuda humanitaria que se dirigía a Gaza, informaron fuentes oficiales.
Egipto y Jordania son los únicos dos países árabes que mantienen relaciones diplomáticas con Israel.
En El Cairo fue convocado el embajador israelí, Itzhag Levanon, según informó la televisión estatal, y en Ammán el encargado de negocios, según informó el ministro jordano de Información, Nabil Sharif.
El presidente egipcio, Hosni Mubarak, en un comunicado oficial condenó "el uso exagerado y sin motivo de la fuerza por parte de Israel y las víctimas inocentes que ha causado".
El mensaje presidencial expresa la solidaridad de Egipto "con el pueblo de Gaza" e indica que "la reconciliación palestina es el único camino para levantar el bloqueo y poner fin al sufrimiento de los ciudadanos de Gaza".
En Ammán, Sharif dijo que el ataque israelí "ha violado todos los principios humanitarios y las leyes internacionales, porque nada justifica el uso de la fuerza contra esta expedición humanitaria".
Además, aseguró que su país responsabiliza a Israel de la seguridad de los 24 activistas jordanos que se encontraban a bordo de la flotilla, en la que viajaban unas 750 personas.
Sharif confirmó que Jordania participará en la reunión urgente convocada por la Liga Árabe para mañana a fin de tratar el tema, e instó a la comunidad internacional para que presione a Israel con el fin de que levante el bloqueo que impone a la franja de Gaza.
