El primer ministro de Turquía, el islamista moderado Recep Tayyip Erdogan, canceló su visita a Latinoamérica para regresar de urgencia a su país tras el ataque israelí a barcos turcos con ayuda humanitaria para la Franja de Gaza.
Según la cadena turca NTV, el primer ministro turco canceló su viaje cuando se encontraba en Chile, adonde llegó ayer.
Erdogan viajó la pasada semana a Brasil para mantener contactos con el presidente Lula da Silva, con quien ha logrado un acuerdo sobre el contencioso nuclear iraní, y participar en el III Foro de la Alianza de Civilizaciones, que patrocina junto al gobierno español.
La agenda del político turco ya había sufrido un cambio ya que se suspendió la visita a Argentina prevista para hoy en protesta por la cancelación de la inauguración de un monumento del fundador de la República de Turquía, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, ante la presión de grupos armenios.
