Los dos españoles detenidos el pasado viernes en Gambia y acusados de haber hecho propuestas homosexuales a dos taxistas pasarán hoy a disposición judicial, han informado fuentes del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores.
Los turistas españoles fueron detenidos el viernes a medio día y desde entonces se encuentran detenidos en la comisaría de Kotu, correspondiente a la zona hotelera próxima a la capital de Gambia, Banjul.
Las fuentes han subrayado que, la misma tarde de su detención, los dos turistas recibieron la visita del cónsul español en Gambia, Nicolás Elbusto, y del agregado de Interior, quienes les visitan diariamente y les están dando "pleno apoyo".
España no cuenta con embajada en este país africano, pero sí con una oficina que depende de la legación diplomática en Dakar, Senegal.
La versión digital del diario gambiano "The Point" ha informado de que, según la policía, los taxistas alertaron inmediatamente a las fuerzas de seguridad que detuvieron a los dos nacionales españoles cuando llegaron al lugar de la cita.
El arresto de los turistas, cuya identidad no confirma Exteriores, tiene lugar tras la firme condena de la homosexualidad hecha por el presidente gambiano, Yahya Jammeh, el pasado 15 de mayo.
El presidente gambiano calificó la homosexualidad como una amenaza para la nación y había dado un ultimátum para que los homosexuales salieran del país en 24 horas.
