Salamanca ha estrenado hoy un nuevo pasodoble titulado "Compás de verónicas", compuesto por el maestro Manuel Rico Gómez, dedicado al matador de toros Julio Robles coincidiendo con el noveno aniversario de su fallecimiento.
El Ayuntamiento de la capital salmantina ha rendido así rendir un homenaje al diestro natural de la localidad abulense de Fontiveros, aunque considerado de Salamanca donde vivió hasta su muerte hace ahora nueve años.
El acto, celebrado junto a la estatua del diestro ubicada en la explanada de la plaza de toros La Glorieta y presidido por el alcalde de la ciudad, Julián Lanzarote, se ha iniciado con la intervención del capellán de la Federación de Peñas Taurinas, Estanislao Gómez Santamaría, quien ha rezado una oración por el torero.
Posteriormente, el periodista y crítico taurino Francisco Cañamero ha leído el texto titulado "Julio Robles, el brillo de un torerazo" en el que ha destacado la figura del maestro del que ha dicho que "fue un espejo de esta tierra (Salamanca) e hizo grande el arte del toreo con el tesoro de su calidad".
A continuación, Lanzarote y miembros de la familia del matador de toros han depositado una corona de laurel a los pies de su estatua.
El homenaje ha concluido con la interpretación a cargo de la Banda Municipal de Música del nuevo pasodoble "Compás de verónicas" mientras el poeta y crítico taurino Toño Blázquez leía el poema del mismo título.
Numerosos han sido los aficionados y representantes del mundo del toro que se han dado cita en la explanada de La Glorieta para participar en el homenaje a pesar del frío y de la amenazante lluvia.
Julio Robles nació en Fontiveros (Ávila) en diciembre de 1951 y murió el 14 de enero de 2001 en Salamanca tras ser operado de urgencia apenas veinticuatro horas antes a causa de una perforación intestinal.
