El mundo necesita una inversión de al menos 45 billones de dólares en tecnología hasta 2050 para reducir a la mitad las emisiones globales de CO2 en esa fecha, según un informe publicado hoy en Tokio por la Agencia Internacional de la Energía (AIE).
Según el informe Perspectivas de Tecnología de Energía 2008, la inversión supondría anualmente 1,1 billones de dólares o el 1,1 por ciento del Producto Interior Bruto (PIB) global.
Con este informe, la AIE, fundada en 1974 y formada por 27 países industrializados, responde a la solicitud de los líderes del G8 de proponer perspectivas para poder cumplir con las metas energéticas en 2050.
La AIE indica que para responder a la demanda de energía para China, India y otras economías emergentes entre 2010 hasta 2050, se deberían instalar nuevos equipo de captura de CO2 cada año en 25 plantas de energía de gas y 35 de carbón, con un coste de 1.500 millones de dólares cada uno.
Además, la AIE añade que cada año deberían construirse en todo el mundo 17.500 turbinas eólicas y 32 plantas de energía nuclear.
Según aseguró hoy el director ejecutivo de la AIE, Nobuo Tanaka, estas medidas requerirán "una nueva revolución energética global" que transformará completamente "el modo en el que producimos y usamos la energía".
Tanaka agregó que se necesitarán "acciones políticas inmediatas y una transición tecnológica en una escala sin precedentes".
