Familiares de la funcionaria española de la Unión Europea desaparecida tras el terremoto en Haití han identificado el cuerpo de Pilar Juárez, que se convierte en la cuarta víctima española confirmada del devastador terremoto en el país caribeño.
El marido de la fallecida, José Valverde, que se encuentra en Santo Domingo, confirmó la identificación en declaraciones a RNE.
"Ha sido reconocida por mi hermano Paco y mi hermano Quique. El cónsul de España les ha llamado y les ha avisado que habían traído el cuerpo desde Haití a la República Dominicana", dijo el marido de Juárez, segoviana de 53 años.
"Se han personado y cuando han confirmado que era su cuñada al cien por cien, se le ha tomado una huella dactilar (...) Actualmente se encuentran los forenses haciendo los trámites pertinentes", añadió.
La familia de la funcionaria mantenía la esperanza de encontrarla con vida después de sufrir una identificación errónea el pasado sábado 16, un incidente que el Ministerio de Exteriores "lamentó profundamente" un día después.
Durante los días que ha durado la búsqueda de Pilar Juárez, su marido e hijo se han quejado de la desasistencia en las tareas de rescate por parte de la Unión Europea, organismo para el que trabajaba Juárez.
Su cuerpo fue rescatado de entre los escombros del derruido cuartel general de la ONU en Puerto Príncipe, donde Pilar Juárez asistía a una reunión en el momento del seísmo.
Juárez es la cuarta víctima española del terremoto, tras el matrimonio María Jesús Plaza e Ives Baltroni, de origen haitiano, y de la subinspectora de policía Rosa Crespo.
