El laboratorio Bayer informó que su medicamentocontra el cáncer regorafenib mejoró las posibilidades desupervivencia en pacientes con un tipo de tumor gastrointestinaly evitó que la condición empeore.
El ensayo en etapa final, con 199 pacientes, mostró que unacombinación del fármaco oncológico de Bayer y la mejor atenciónde respaldo prolongaron la supervivencia de los pacientes contumores estromales gastrointestinales (GIST por sus siglas eninglés) metastásicos, comparado con la ingesta de una píldoraplacebo y el mejor cuidado paliativo.
El ensayo incluyó sólo a pacientes cuya enfermedad habíaprogresado pese a un tratamiento previo.
Bayer dijo que planea solicitar aprobación en Estados Unidospara el uso de regorafenib como tratamiento del GISTmetastásico. Onyx Pharmaceuticals es el socio comercialestadounidense para regorafenib.
