El tenista español David Ferrer reconoció la supremacía de David Nalbandian en el partido que el argentino ganó por 6-3, 6-2 y 6-3 para darle el viernes el primer punto a su país en la final de la Copa Davis.
Ferrer, quien no ha tenido una buena temporada europea en torneos disputados en pistas rápidas y cubiertas, no puso excusas por la derrota y reconoció que sus piernas no le respondieron ante la exigencia del partido, que duró dos horas.
"David fue muy superior. Intenté más pero no se puede cuando se ve que (el rival) es muy superior", sostuvo en conferencia de prensa en el estadio Polideportivo Islas Malvinas de Mar del Plata.
El alicantino, quien dijo no encontrarle explicación a su bajo nivel, destacó que no se pueden dar ventajas ante Nalbandian.
"Mis piernas no estuvieron acorde al partido. Me costó muchísimo y si no estás bien preparado para jugarle a David no se puede", dijo el número 12 en la clasificación mundial.
Ferrer reconoció que a pesar de haber perdido el punto que abrió la serie, su ánimo es bueno y remarcó que debe seguir trabajando duro hasta el domingo, cuando se enfrentará a Del Potro en la última jornada de competencia.
"Es solamente un partido y un punto (...) no queda otra que entrenarme y ver si puedo jugar el domingo, la serie no está definida", destacó.
Ferrer se molestó cuando un periodista español le preguntó qué le sugería, con la derrota, el nombre de Rafael Nadal, quien se cayó de la final por una tendinitis en su rodilla derecha.
"Debo contestar nuevamente esa pregunta, me la han hecho desde que he llegado. Nadal no está, es el número uno del mundo y lo lamentamos pero estamos aquí", señaló molesto.
El tenista también hizo referencia al comportamiento del público, después de las declaraciones recientes de Nadal, quien había sugerido retirar al equipo si la gente era hostil con los jugadores españoles.
"El público se ha comportado muy bien, respetuosamente. No ha habido ningún problema", dijo Ferrer.
