Los fieles de Finlandia podrían donar dinero a su iglesia a través de mensajes de texto sin tener que acudir a misa.
Según la ley actual, la Iglesia no puede recaudar fondos a través de este medio en Finlandia, hogar del gigante de la telefonía móvil Nokia.
Pero el canónigo Matti Pikkarainen, de la Catedral de Oulu, dijo que quería plantear el tema en una reunión nacional de la Iglesia el próximo mes.
"Hablé esta mañana con algunas personas que están en puestos principales en nuestra Iglesia para ver si podemos cambiar la ley", dijo Pikkarainen.
"Depende más del Parlamento que de la Iglesia (...) Creo que la Iglesia está lista para este tipo de modernización este año", añadió.
Pikkarainen dijo que los feligreses podrían usar sus teléfonos para donar dinero al final de las misas, para no molestar a otros fieles. Los mensajes de texto también les darían más libertad para hacer donaciones debido a que no necesitan asistir a misa.
"Si uno está escuchando la misa por la radio, la televisión o Internet, también lo puede hacer desde su casa. Hoy en día la gente no siempre está en la iglesia", dijo.
A finales de 2008, alrededor del 80 por ciento de los finlandeses eran miembros registrados de la Iglesia Luterana Evangélica. Oulu se encuentra en el norte de Finlandia.
