La Federación Internacional de Periodistas (FIP) ha pedido hoy a las autoridades iraníes que el juicio por espionaje a la periodista iraní-norteamericana Roxana Saberi sea "público, honesto y respete los derechos de la acusada".
Saberi, que ha trabajado para diversos medios anglosajones y permaneció en Irán durante seis años, fue arrestada el pasado enero acusada de trabajar como periodista sin los permisos necesarios.
Desde entonces, ha permanecido en la cárcel de Evin, en Teherán, donde ayer comenzó su juicio a puerta cerrada, ha informado hoy la federación en un comunicado.
Para el secretario general de la FIP, Aidan White, un juicio a puerta cerrada "resta credibilidad al proceso", por lo que ha reclamado que se garanticen los estándares judiciales internacionales y que el proceso sea público.
La semana pasada un juez iraní añadió a las acusaciones que ya pesan sobre la periodista la de trabajar como espía para los Estados Unidos. El veredicto se conocerá en tres semanas.
White ha denunciado hoy "lo fácil" que es acusar a un periodista de espionaje.
