La ministra de Fomento, Magdalena Álvarez, dijo hoy que la red de autovías y autopistas crecerá hasta los 12.000 kilómetros al final de la legislatura (en el año 2012), frente a los 15.000 kilómetros previstos en el Plan Estatal de Infraestructuras del Transporte 2005-2020 (PEIT).
Durante su primera intervención de la Legislatura ante la Comisión de Fomento en el Congreso de los Diputados, la ministra aseguró que durante los próximos cuatro años se pondrán en servicio 1.500 kilómetros de autovías y se iniciarán otros 1.600 kilómetros más.
Los planes de su departamento pasan por la licitación para la renovación de 521 kilómetros de autovías de primera generación -que cuenta con el objetivo de acondicionar 2.130 kilómetros- entre los años 2008 y 2009, así como de 610 kilómetros más en 2010.
También quiere aumentar los carriles adicionales en 500 kilómetros y construir 20 nuevos enlaces a lo largo de 165.000 kilómetros de red viaria.
