El ministro francés de Exteriores, Bernard Kouchner, confirmó hoy que el velero francés secuestrado por piratas el pasado sábado frente a las costas de Somalia está "localizado desde ayer".
En declaraciones a la radio RTL, el jefe de la diplomacia francesa se negó a dar detalles sobre "una operación antipiratería que ha sido iniciada por Francia y que ahora reagrupa a un número importante de países".
Kouchner afirmó, sin embargo, que el barco francés, identificado por varios medios como el velero "Tanit", fue secuestrado muy lejos de la costa, una nueva forma de actuar de los piratas "que no facilita la labor de la operación europea 'Atlanta'".
Hasta ahora Francia no había confirmado que el velero estuviera secuestrado y se limitaban a decir que estaban "verificando" la información.
Diversas fuentes indicaron que el barco fue secuestrado el pasado sábado a unos 640 kilómetros de la costa somalí, frente a la ciudad de Ras Hafun, al noroeste del país.
A bordo del velero, que partió de Francia a finales de julio de 2008, se encontraban un niño de tres años y dos parejas, que se dirigían a Zanzíbar.
