Los ministros de Asuntos Exteriores de los países del G8 pidieron hoy "verificar a fondo" el inventario nuclear entregado ayer por Corea del Norte a China y continuar avanzando con las negociaciones para su desnuclearización.
En un comunicado conjunto de los representantes de la diplomacia del Grupo de los Ocho (G8) al final de su cumbre de Kioto, los ministros consideraron necesario continuar con el diálogo a seis bandas hasta que se verifique la desnuclearización del país comunista.
Los ministros consideraron que la entrega del inventario nuclear norcoreano ha sido un "paso importante" hacia la consecución de los objetivos de que Corea del Norte "abandone todas las armas y los programas nucleares existentes, así como los programas de misiles".
Se trata, según el G8, de que Pyongyang cumpla con el compromiso de desnuclearización completa que adquirió en septiembre de 2005.
Los representantes de los países más industrializados, encabezados por la secretaria de Estado de EEUU, Condoleezza Rice, pidieron a Corea del Norte que "colabore con la verificación, así como en el desmantelamiento de todas las instalaciones nucleares".
Está previsto que el director del Departamento estadounidense para Corea, Sung Kim, presencie hoy en vivo la destrucción de una torre de enfriamiento del complejo nuclear norcoreano de Yongbyon.
En una rueda de prensa conjunta, Rice insistió en que el proceso "no se trata de un acuerdo entre EEUU y Corea del Norte" y se unió al G8 para pedir que se "acelere el proceso de negociaciones a seis bandas".
Los ministros instaron además al régimen comunista a que se ocupe también de otros asuntos de índole humanitaria y de derechos humanos, y "que se llegue pronto a resolver la cuestión de los secuestros" de ciudadanos japoneses por Pyongyang en los años 70.
