El conservador George Osborne será el nuevo ministro de Economía del Reino Unido, el cargo gubernamental más importante después del de primer ministro, según informó hoy la cadena pública BBC.
Osborne será conocido con el histórico título de Canciller del Exchequer y ocupará la residencia oficial del numero 11 de Downing Street, colindante con la del jefe del Gobierno, que reside en el número 10 de esa famosa calle.
El líder del Partido Conservador, David Cameron, se convirtió hoy en nuevo primer ministro del Reino Unido tras aceptar la invitación de la reina Isabel II para que formara Gobierno, tal y como marca el protocolo.
El nombramiento de Cameron, que con 43 años será el "premier" más joven que ha tenido el país desde el siglo XIX, se produjo después de la dimisión del laborista Gordon Brown, cuyo partido perdió las elecciones el pasado 6 de mayo.
Al no obtener la mayoría absoluta en los comicios, el Partido Conservador de Cameron tuvo que negociar con los liberales demócratas de Nick Clegg, con quienes finalmente ha llegado a un acuerdo para gobernar en coalición, lo que podría significar la cesión a la tercera fuerza del país de algunos ministerios.
