Grecia canceló pedidos por más de 12millones de dosis de vacunas contra la influenza pandémica H1N1para reducir costos, debido a su creciente déficitpresupuestario, dijo la ministra de Salud del país.
Grecia tiene suministros suficientes para su población de11 millones de personas porque obtuvo 3,7 millones de vacunas,informó la ministra Marilisa Xenogiannakopoulou el lunes aúltima hora.
El país mediterráneo, que recibe alrededor de 15 millonesde turistas por año, ha reportado casi 100 muertes por el virusde la popularmente conocida como gripe porcina. Hasta elmomento, han sido vacunadas 360.000 personas, según cifras delGobierno.
"En un período de dificultades económicas y esfuerzos poreconomizar, es importante ahorrar fondos", dijoXenogiannakopoulou.
Reducir los costos de la asistencia médica y de loshospitales es clave en el intento del Gobierno por ordenar lasfinanzas públicas luego de que el déficit del presupuestosubiera al 12,7 por ciento del PIB el año pasado.
El anterior Gobierno conservador de Grecia había asignado40 millones de euros (57,59 millones de dólares) para comprar16 millones de dosis de vacunas a Novartis, Glaxo y Sanofi.
Varios gobiernos han comenzado a reducir sus órdenes devacunas debido a que la pandemia no resultó ser tan mortíferacomo se temía originalmente y a que la mayoría de las personasnecesitan sólo una dosis, no dos, para quedar completamenteinmunizadas.
