La ausencia del centrocampista Jose María Gutíerrez "Guti" y la presencia de Álvaro Arbeloa son las principales novedades en la convocatoria del entrenador chileno Manuel Pellegrini para el encuentro ante el Real Valladolid.
Guti, que desde principio de semana arrastra un esguince en el ligamento lateral interno del tobillo izquierdo, era duda hasta última hora y finalmente se ha decidido no forzarle. Como él, no estarán ante el Valladolid Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Fernando Gago, Christoph Metzelder y Cristiano Ronaldo, aquejados de problemas físicos.
Los que sí entran en la citación son Álvaro Arbeloa y Ezequiel Garay. El primero ha sido llamado a pesar de que estaba prácticamente descartado tras varias semanas lesionado, mientras que el argentino ha superado un golpe que le impidió ejercitarse con normalidad el jueves.
De esta forma el entrenador se lleva a dieciocho jugadores de la primera plantilla y no tira del filial, algo con lo que se venía especulando durante los últimos días debido a las numerosas bajas del equipo.
La lista de dieciocho hombres la componen Casillas, Dudek, Ramos, Arbeloa, Pepe, Albiol, Garay, Marcelo, Drenthe, Xabi Alonso, Lass, Granero, Diarra, Van der Vaart, Kaká, Higuaín, Benzema y Raúl.
