Los cadáveres de nueve personas han sido hallados hasta el momento entre los escombros de una casa derruida ayer por una explosión en Lieja (Sur de Bélgica), según han anunciado hoy las autoridades locales.
La explosión, que ha dejado un total de veintiún heridos, tres de ellos de gravedad, ocurrió la noche del martes al miércoles en un edificio de cinco pisos y podría haberse debido a una fuga de gas.
Por el momento, se han encontrado nueve cadáveres que aún no han sido identificados y una única superviviente -una niña de doce años-, según explicó hoy la policía de Lieja a la agencia Belga.
Los equipos de rescate seguirán trabajando en el desescombro del inmueble durante el día de hoy, y todavía esperan hallar personas con vida, según el comisario de la policía de la ciudad, Daniel Renwa.
Las autoridades desconocen el numero exacto de personas que se encontraban en el edificio en el momento del incidente, aunque la radiotelevisión pública RTBF avanzó que podría haber tres parejas desaparecidas.
Las tareas de rescate se están llevando a cabo con mucha precaución ante el riesgo de derrumbe de los inmuebles aledaños, que podrían haber sufrido importantes daños estructurales en la explosión.
Las autoridades apuntan como causa más probable una fuga de gas, ya que los bomberos fueron llamados a esa misma casa el pasado sábado por un vecino que detectó un fuerte olor a gas.
