Intel Corp, el mayor fabricante de microprocesadores del mundo, no sabe cuándo resurgirá la demanda de semiconductores, dijo el miércoles su presidente, Craig Barrett.
Al preguntarle cuándo esperaba ver una recuperación en la industria del chip, el director de Intel comentó que los paquetes de estímulo que han lanzado los gobiernos alrededor del mundo probablemente tengan impacto en los próximos seis a 18 meses.
"La recuperación ocurrirá en esos seis a 18 meses", dijo a la prensa durante una visita a Pekín.
La Asociación de la Industria de Semiconductores (SIA) dijo que las ventas globales de chips cayeron cerca del 30 por ciento en febrero, debido a un desplome de la demanda de aparatos que utilizan semiconductores, desde ordenadores y teléfonos móviles hasta productos para coches.
La SIA cree que la demanda de chips posiblemente se mantenga bastante por debajo de los niveles de 2008 los próximos trimestres antes de una recuperación gradual, cuando la economía global recupere su fuerza.
Ian Yang, presidente de Intel China, dijo que la empresa está trabajando según el programa previsto con su nueva planta de 2.500 millones de dólares en Dalian, una ciudad portuaria en el noreste de China.
"La construcción de nuestra planta en Dalian va sin problemas y completamente de acuerdo al plan. No ha habido cambios", comentó Yang.
