La Interpol emitió una orden de captura internacional del dirigente opositor venezolano Manuel Rosales, quien está acusado de corrupción en su país y huyó a Perú donde pidió asilo, informó una fuente policial de Venezuela.
El director de la policía científica de Venezuela, Wilmer Flores, declaró en una rueda de prensa que, una vez incluida la orden de captura en el sistema policial mundial, las autoridades desean que se dé alerta máxima al caso, lo que se clasifica en esa instancia como difusión roja.
La inclusión de Rosales en la lista de la Interpol de personas buscadas fue solicitada el miércoles por el tribunal de Caracas que lleva su caso, tras emitir una orden de privación de libertad al considerar que el alcalde de Maracaibo ha demostrado no tener "voluntad de someterse al proceso" judicial que se sigue contra él.
La orden de captura de Rosales fue emitida al no presentarse el lunes ante el tribunal que iba a decidir si ordenaba su prisión preventiva o le permitía esperar en libertad el juicio que afronta. La Fiscalía venezolana acusa a Rosales de enriquecimiento ilícito entre 2002 y 2004 durante su gestión como gobernador del estado del Zulia.
Tanto Rosales como el presidente de su partido, Un Nuevo Tiempo (UNT), Omar Barboza, han denunciado que esas acusaciones son un montaje para justificar la "persecución política" que atribuyen al presidente de Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, quien públicamente ha dicho que quiere "verlo preso".
Rosales, ex candidato presidencial en 2006, apareció esta semana en Perú, donde pidió asilo. Desde allí dijo que se considera un "perseguido político" de Chávez, a quien tildó de "cobarde" y "dictadorzuelo". El Gobierno peruano ha advertido a Rosales de que no debe utilizar Perú como plataforma política.
