Un miliciano palestino murió y otros dos resultaron heridos esta madrugada en un ataque israelí a la ciudad de Gaza, que coincidió con el cierre de los territorios palestinos por parte de Israel a causa de la fiesta de Shavuot (Pentecostés).
Fuentes médicas palestinas dijeron que un tanque israelí disparó un proyectil de artillería contra el barrio Sayaíe, lo que causó la muerte al islamista y heridas a los otros dos.
El ataque coincidió con la declaración por Israel del cierre de los territorios palestinos con motivo del Shavuot, que se celebra a partir de esta tarde durante 24 horas.
En esta jornada, los judíos de todo el mundo conmemoran la entrega de las Tablas de la Ley a Moisés en el Monte Sinaí, hace más de 3.000 años.
El cierre de territorios afecta en realidad a Cisjordania, pues Gaza está completamente aislada desde junio de 2007, cuando el movimiento islamista Hamás tomó la franja de manos de Al Fatah y la Autoridad Nacional Palestina (ANP).
Los intercambios de fuego entre el Ejército israelí y las milicias palestinas en Gaza son constantes desde entonces, aunque hace unos días el ministro de Defensa, Ehud Barak, advirtió que Israel "estaba más cerca que nunca" de una ofensiva a gran escala en la franja.
