El tenor español José Carreras inauguró hoy en la Universidad de Marburg (oeste de Alemania) un nuevo centro de investigación de la leucemia, financiado en parte por la fundación que lleva su nombre.
De los cinco millones de euros que han costado las nuevas instalaciones, la Fundación Alemana José Carreras (DCLS, por sus siglas en alemán) ha aportado 1,6 millones de euros.
El tenor, de 62 años, creó la fundación que lleva su nombre en 1988, un año después de que le fuese diagnosticada esa enfermedad.
El objetivo de la fundación es encontrar una cura a la leucemia, dar apoyo a los enfermos y promover la investigación científica, para lo que pone a disposición de los médicos una base de datos de donantes de médula ósea.
El nuevo centro dispone de 16 camas y está equipado con modernos laboratorios, con el fin de servir de puente entre la investigación y la atención al paciente.
La división alemana de la fundación del tenor existe desde 1995 y tiene su sede en Múnich.
