El madrileño José Luis Abajo confirmó su buen estado de forma y su ambición para los próximos Juegos Olímpicos de Pekín 2008 al colgarse la medalla de bronce en la prueba de la Copa del Mundo de espada de París.
Abajo, que continúa entre los ocho mejores del ránking mundial, tan solo fue frenado en semifinales Fabrice Jeannet, por 12-15, quien a la postre fue el campeón al imponerse en la final a su compatriota Jean-Michel Lucenay.
Con anterioridad el espadista español había derrotado sucesivamente al esloveno Uros Balent (15-7) y a los franceses Jorg Mathe (15-12), Mathieu Denis (15-9) y Gauthier Grumier (15-12).
Del resto de los españoles el único que superó la ronda inicial fue Eduardo Sepúlveda, que derrotó al ruso Alexey Tikhomirov (15-13), pero luego perdió frente al polaco Radoslaw Zawrotniak (13-15).
