La próxima edición de la Feria del Libro de Madrid, que se celebrará del 30 de mayo al 15 de junio, estará dedicada a Latinoamérica y su literatura, según ha acordado la comisión organizadora de este gran encuentro cultural.
Tras la edición de 2007, que estuvo dedicada a África, los organizadores de la Feria han decidido darle protagonismo a Hispanoamérica, una región "de importancia creciente, que vivirá un momento cumbre en 2010", año en que se conmemoran dos siglos de la independencia de las repúblicas americanas.
Durante los diecisiete días que durará la Feria del Libro, que cada año es visitada por uno dos millones de personas, se profundizará en la literatura hispanoamericana que, tras el denominado "boom", está viviendo un relevo generacional en el que nombres como los mexicanos Juan Villoro y Jorge Volpi, el peruano Santiago Roncagliolo, el colombiano Juan Gabriel Vásquez o el argentino Alan Pauls.
Volpi y Pauls son algunos de los autores que participarán en los numerosos actos de la feria, junto con Enrique Vila-Matas, Rodrigo Fresán y Ricargo Piglia, entre otros.
En 2008 se celebrarán 75 años del nacimiento de la Feria del Libro de Madrid, cuya primera entrega tuvo lugar en 1933. El estallido de la Guerra Civil, en 1936, obligó a suspender el festival literario, que no se volvió a convocar hasta 1944.
