La madre del niño de Colorado que se creía que estaba a bordo de un globo casero de helio admitió a los investigadores que todo el caso fue un fraude, señalaron los documentos del tribunal publicados el viernes.
El jefe de policía local había dicho que el incidente del "niño del globo", que ocurrió el 15 de octubre, era un truco publicitario y que esperaba que se presentaran cargos contra los padres del niño de 6 años, Richard y Mayumi Heene.
Las imágenes, transmitidas en directo por televisión, de un globo parecido a un platillo volando por los cielos de Colorado cautivaron a los espectadores hasta que el niño finalmente apareció en el ático de la casa de su familia.
La compasión del público se transformó en indignación cuando se comenzó a descubrir la historia de la familia.
Según la copia de una orden de búsqueda y de una declaración jurada publicada en la web del diario "The Coloradoan" de Fort Collins, Mayumi dijo a los investigadores que ella y su esposo mintieron a las autoridades y que sabían que su hijo Falcon estaba en casa.
Durante el incidente, equipos de rescate siguieron al globo creyendo que el menor se encontraba dentro del aparato.
"El motivo para la historia inventada era hacer a la familia Heene más comercialmente atractiva para un futuro interés de los medios", señalaba la declaración jurada.
El documento también dice que los Heene, que aparecieron en el programa "Wife Swap", habían pensado el montaje unas dos semanas antes y que habían instruido a sus tres hijos para que mintieran ante las autoridades y los medios.
