Los argentinos Maxímo González y Leonardo Mayer cayeron eliminados en la primera jornada del torneo de tenis de Houston, del circuito ATP 250, que reparte premios de 500.000 dólares y se disputa sobre tierra batida.
González, octavo preclasificado del torneo, fue eliminado por el español Daniel Gimeno-Traver, por 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, que realizó un gran partido con su saque y con su excelente resto.
Mayer tampoco pudo con el ruso Evgeny Korolev, que le ganó por 7-6 (2), 2-6, 7-5. El jugador europeo fue mucho más consistente en los golpes desde el fondo de la pista.
También en la jornada inaugural del torneo el austríaco Jurgen Melzer (3) vino de atrás en el marcador y ganó al estadounidense Robert Kendrick por 6-1, 7-5.
Para la jornada de hoy, martes, están programados los partidos con los grandes favoritos a ganar el torneo, entre los que se encuentra el español Marcel Granollers, que defiende el título de campeón.
Granollers, sexto preclasificado, se enfrentará al argentino Brian Dabul, mientras que el partido estelar será el que disputen el estadounidense James Blake, primer cabeza de serie, frente a Guillermo Cañas.
Otro argentino Diego Junqueira, séptimo preclasificado, tendrá la difícil prueba de enfrentarse al ex número uno, el australiano Lleyton Hewitt.
Habrá duelo argentino con Sergio Roitman y Agustín Caleri, mientras que el chileno Paul Capdeville jugará contra el estadounidense Sam Querrey (5).
El ecuatoriano Giovanni Lapenti tendrá de rival al español Guillermo García-López.
También lo harán el estadounidense Mardy Fish (2) contra el alemán Bjorn Phau y Tommy Haas que protagoniza duelo germano con Denis Gremelmayr.
