El Programa de Diagnóstico Precoz del Cáncer de Mama en la Comunidad de Madrid (DEPRECAM), dependiente de la Consejería de Sanidad, ha alcanzado, en el décimo aniversario de su existencia, el millón de mujeres participantes.
De esta cifra total, sólo 3.629 casos estudiados han sido diagnosticados como cáncer de mama. Y, de éstos, el 70% fueron detectados en las fases iniciales del tumor, lo que permite aplicar un tratamiento menos agresivo y con mejor pronóstico.
Por el contrario, en los casos de cáncer de mama detectados por otras vías, el porcentaje de fases iniciales desciende al 56%.
Estos datos fueron facilitados por la Oficina Regional de Coordinación Oncológica con motivo del Día Mundial contra el Cáncer de Mama que se celebra mañana.
El DEPRECAM oferta a todas las madrileñas de entre 50 y 69 años, la posibilidad de realizarse una mamografía cada dos años, recibiendo de forma inmediata el resultado.
En caso de hallarse la presencia de un posible tumor, el propio programa puede encargarse de hacer nuevas mamografías y ecografías. Los casos más probables de tumoración son remitidos al hospital de referencia de la paciente a través de un circuito especial que garantiza la rapidez adecuada en la asistencia.
Este último grupo, considerados casos potencialmente positivos, está en torno al 0,29% de las mujeres participantes.
