El ministro alemán de Exteriores, Guido Westerwelle, ha viajado esta semana oficialmente a China y Japón acompañado por su compañero sentimental Michael "Micky" Mronz, quien ha sido presentado a los principales líderes de ambos países.
Homosexual declarado, Westerwelle ha realizado por primera vez estos días un viaje oficial con su compañero sentimental, un empresario deportivo de 42 años, con quien comparte un piso en Berlín, informa hoy el dominical "Bild am Sonntag".
Ante la curiosidad de sus anfitriones orientales, Micky Mronz tuvo ocasión de saludar personalmente al primer ministro chino, Wen Jiabao, y al jefe de la diplomacia nipona, Katsuya Okada, entre otras autoridades.
El rotativo destaca que tanto en China como en Japón la presencia del compañero sentimental de Westerwelle despertó una gran curiosidad, ya que, aunque en ambos países la homosexualidad no es perseguida, tampoco es vista con buenos ojos por las autoridades.
"He sido recibido muy bien en todas partes", declara Mronz en el "Bild am Sonntag", al que comenta que ha podido "comprobar claramente el elevado prestigio de que Alemania disfruta en el extranjero. Ha sido impresionante".
Guido Westerwelle, de 48 años, es también el presidente del Partido Liberal Alemán (FDP) y vicecanciller en el gobierno de la canciller federal, Angela Merkel.
En Alemania también han hecho pública su homosexualidad otros políticos destacados, como el alcalde-gobernador del Berlín, el socialdemócrata Klaus Wowereit, o su colega en la ciudad-estado de Hamburgo, el cristianodemócrata Ole von Beust.
