Al menos siete policías y 25 miembros de las FARC han muerto en los enfrentamientos que ambas partes sostienen desde la noche del domingo pasado en el departamento colombiano del Cauca (suroeste), según informaciones del gobierno colombiano.
El comandante de la policía regional, general Gustavo Adolfo Ricaurte, aseguró que el choque se libró cuando las fuerzas del orden atacaron un campamento de las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) en el municipio de Timba (Cauca).
Ricaurte señaló que los labriegos de la zona vieron que esta madrugada los rebeldes evacuaron los cadáveres de por lo menos 25 guerrilleros que murieron en los choques. Los siete policías, entre ellos un oficial, se movilizaban en una patrulla que fue atacada con morteros de granada desde la parte montañosa de esa región del suroeste de Colombia.
Dos agentes más resultaron heridos y fueron trasladados a centros hospitalarios del municipio de Jamundí, el más cercano a la zona donde fueron atacados los policías, pertenecientes al escuadrón móvil de carabineros y la policía judicial. Aeronaves de la Policía y la Fuerza Aérea iniciaron la persecución de los rebeldes que perpetraron el ataque contra los policías.
