Dos personas han muerto hoy tras ser arrolladas por un coche mientras presenciaban en la localidad holandesa de Apeldoorn el desfile del Día de la Reina, en el que participaba la Familia Real, según la televisión pública NOS.
Dicha fuente informó de que otras 12 personas resultaron heridas en el suceso, que se produjo prácticamente cuando el autobús descapotable en el que iban la reina Beatriz y su familia por las calles de Apeldoorn (a 90 kilómetros de Amsterdam) pasaba por el lugar.
En ese momento, un coche de color negro irrumpió a gran velocidad desde un cruce y arrolló a parte del público que presenciaba el desfile para terminar estrellándose, según puede verse en las imágenes difundidas por televisión.
El vehículo golpeó a más de una decena de personas y, según aseguran algunas fuentes, el número de víctimas mortales podría ascender a cuatro, aunque esta información no ha sido confirmada.
Algunos testigos presenciales han dicho a los medios locales que el conductor del automóvil, que ha sido detenido, parecía tratar de golpear el autobús en el que viajaba la Familia Real, que presenció de cerca el suceso.
Según el canal de televisión NOS, en algunas imágenes puede ver como el príncipe Guillermo y la princesa Máxima se llevan las manos al rostro al ver lo sucedido.
El autobús en el que viajaban se dirigió inmediatamente al cercano Palacio del Loo, desde donde se ha dado orden de cancelar todos los actos festivos en los que la Familia Real tenía previsto participar hoy.
El primer ministro, Jan Peter Balkenende, ofrecerá una breve declaración desde Rotterdam para comentar lo sucedido y las autoridades locales comparecerán ante los medios alrededor de las 14 horas GMT para dar detalles.
