Seis personas han muerto hasta el momento, cuatro de ellas estadounidense -dos civiles y dos militares-, y diez más están heridas por un atentado suicida perpetrado hoy por un hombre con un cinturón explosivo en Ciudad Sadr, enorme barriada chií del este de Bagdad.
Según un comunicado de la embajada estadounidense, el atentado fue perpetrado en el ayuntamiento de este enorme barrio, considerado feudo de los seguidores del clérigo radical chií Muqtada Sadr.
El ayuntamiento estaba precisamente celebrando una reunión para la elección de un nuevo alcalde del distrito, y entre los asistentes consiguió infiltrarse el terrorista suicida, al que se supone disfrazado con algún atuendo que le permitió tener acceso.
Al menos cinco de los heridos son también soldados estadounidenses, dijeron las fuentes, y otro más es el vicealcalde.
Los militares estadounidenses acordonaron la zona.
