La película Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios (1988), de Pedro Almodóvar, será adaptada a la televisión estadounidense por los estudios Fox TV bajo la producción ejecutiva del director manchego, informó hoy The Hollywood Reporter.
El proyecto tendrá un formato de una hora de duración y será grabado en inglés con la intención de distribuirlo tanto en EEUU como internacionalmente. El episodio piloto contará con el guión de Mimi Schmir, que trabajó en series como Felicity y Anatomía de Grey. Según confirmaron fuentes del estudio, esta producción se encuentra aún en una etapa inicial de su desarrollo.
La serie será un drama de suburbios urbanos protagonizado por un grupo de mujeres de mediana edad que se conocen desde hace mucho tiempo y están expectantes por saber cómo será lo que les queda por vivir. Igual que en la película, el humor será una de las características principales de la serie.
Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios, protagonizada por Carmen Maura y Antonio Banderas, fue el primer gran éxito de Almodóvar en Hollywood, donde el filme fue candidato al Óscar como mejor película de habla no inglesa.
