El secretario general de la Liga Árabe, Amro Musa, abandonó una sesión de la IV conferencia de premios Nobel, que se celebra en Petra (Jordania), tras discutir con el presidente israelí, Simón Peres, sobre el proceso de paz en Oriente Medio.
El diario jordano Al Arab al Youm informó hoy de que Musa se marchó ayer de la conferencia, tras enzarzarse en una discusión con Peres sobre quién bloqueó el proceso de paz en Oriente Medio.
Según el periódico, Peres acusó a los países árabes de ser los responsables de la parálisis del proceso y culpó al presidente sirio, Bachar al Asad, de impedir la celebración de negociaciones de paz directas entre Siria e Israel.
En la actualidad, Tel Aviv y Damasco mantienen conversaciones de paz indirectas, con la mediación de Turquía, tras permanecer técnicamente en guerra durante más de tres décadas.
Musa reaccionó enfadado y recordó el fracaso israelí para responder de forma positiva a la iniciativa árabe de paz, adoptada por los países árabes en el 2002 en Beirut y que propone la normalización de las relaciones con Israel a cambio de su retirada de los territorios árabes ocupados en 1967.
Además, Musa señaló que la construcción continuada de asentamientos israelíes en los territorios palestinos "está cambiando la situación demográfica sobre el terreno".
"No somos capaces de saber a dónde nos queréis llevar", dijo Musa.
El rotativo señaló que tras el altercado Musa dijo que se vio forzado a responder a los comentarios de Peres porque "Israel está engañando a los árabes al alegar que está haciendo la paz".
