La nueva gripe se ha extendido ya a 17 centros escolares de la Comunidad de Madrid, según los últimos datos del Ministerio de Sanidad. En total, hay 121 alumnos afectados por esta enfermedad. Las autoridades sanitarias confirman que todos los casos son leves, con escasa sintomatología y una recuperación sin complicaciones. De hecho, ninguno de los centros ha cerrado.
La noticia se conocía el mismo día en que la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) reiteraba que está cerca de declarar una pandemia total. El director adjunto de la OMS, Keiji Fukuda, aseguró que no se dará ese paso hasta que no exista la seguridad de que los países están preparados para prevenir el pánico entrela población.
En ese sentido, los ministros de Sanidad de la Unión Europea (UE) pactaron ayer en Luxemburgo definir una "estrategia común" de cara a la vacunación contra la nueva gripe, que se producirá a partir de octubre, para evitar que cada país actúe por su cuenta. Los 27 Estados de la UE se comprometieron a acordar a qué porcentaje de población se vacunará en cada país y cuáles son los grupos de riesgo a los que se dará prioridad, según explicó la ministra de Sanidad, Trinidad Jiménez, al término de la reunión.
Además, Jiménez calificó de "injustificada" y de "ineficaz" la decisión de las autoridades rusas de recomendar a sus ciudadanos que no viajen a España para evitar el contagio de la nueva gripe.
