El presidente de EEUU, Barack Obama, ha criticado la actitud de las instituciones financieras de Wall Street ante la crisis financiera que llevó al país a la recesión.
En una entrevista para la cadena PBS, Obama señaló que esas instituciones no se muestran arrepentidas por las medidas que tomaron y que fueron el principal detonante de la crisis. "Uno tiene la sensación de que esa gente de Wall Street no ha sentido ningún remordimiento por haber asumido todos esos riesgos", manifestó.
"No se advierte que se haya producido un cambio de cultura y conducta como consecuencia de lo que ha ocurrido. Es por eso que las reformas regulatorias que hemos propuesto son tan importantes", indicó.
Esas medidas anunciadas en junio tienen como objetivo reformar el sistema de supervisión de bancos y mercados financieros con el objetivo de que impedir que se vuelva a repetir la crisis. Obama señaló que esas medidas impedirán que las empresas de Wall Street vuelvan a asumir los "riesgos locos" que causaron el virtual desplome de la economía.
Obama manifestó también que las medidas que ha tomado el gobierno para conseguir la estabilización del sistema están dando resultados, pese a que se teme que el desempleo supere el nivel del 10% en los próximos meses. "Creo que hemos apagado el incendio", manifestó.
