La ONG Intervención, Ayuda y Emergencias (IAE) ha rescatado a cuatro personas con vida bajo los escombros de varios edificios en Puerto Príncipe, capital de Haití, donde esta organización española desplazó a diez voluntarios y cuatro perros.
Fuentes de esta ONG han informado hoy de que los voluntarios trabajan en todo momento "escoltados por militares y policías ya que el caos reside en todas parte del país", y especialmente porque "unos 5.000 convictos se dieron a la fuga de una prisión de Haití".
El grupo de IAE, organización que tiene su sede nacional en Algemesí, tuvo grandes dificultades para llegar hasta la capital caribeña debido a que el terremoto derribó la torre de control del aeropuerto y ante la ausencia de controladores aéreos en horario nocturno.
Su primer trabajo, tras aterrizar en Puerto Príncipe, fue la búsqueda de una persona desaparecida en un edificio institucional, al que acudieron requeridos por el cónsul de Suecia y la embajadora de Lituania pero, "por desgracia, la víctima fue localizada sin vida".
Intervención, Ayuda y Emergencias cuenta con diez años de experiencia demostrada en diferentes intervenciones tanto en España como en otros países, como son los casos de los terremotos registrados en Perú, Pakistán, Sri Lanka, Argelia, El Salvador, Turquía y Marruecos.
