El Gobierno de Pakistán acusó hoy a los insurgentes talibanes de la explosión de un artefacto con apariencia de juguete que acabó con la vida de trece niños en el noroeste del país, informó el canal televisivo Geo.
En declaraciones al canal, el consejero paquistaní de Interior, Rehman Malik, responsabilizó de la explosión a los talibanes y prometió un castigo para los autores.
Malik acusó a los talibanes de utilizar a niños para perpetrar atentados suicidas y anunció la apertura de una investigación, que se centrará en saber si las familias de las víctimas del atentado se negaron a entregar a sus hijos a los insurgentes.
La explosión tuvo lugar ayer en la población de Luqman Banda, situada en el distrito de Dir de la Provincia de la Frontera del Noroeste (NWFP), cuando los niños vieron un artefacto con aspecto de juguete en un área cercana a una comisaría y una escuela de primaria.
Los pequeños, con edades comprendidas entre los cuatro y doce años, comenzaron a jugar con el artefacto hasta que este estalló. Tanto el presidente de Pakistán, Asif Alí Zardari, como el primer ministro, Yusuf Razá Guilani, se apresuraron a condenar el suceso, acaecido en una zona donde recientemente se habían registrado varios secuestros y episodios de violencia.
Algunas áreas de la NWFP y el colindante cinturón tribal fronterizo con Afganistán sirven de refugio para numerosos grupos de la insurgncia talibán y miembros de la red terrorista internacional Al Qaeda.
