Un panel asesor de EstadosUnidos respaldó un medicamento experimental de Seattle Geneticspara el tratamiento de un tipo de cáncer sanguíneo.
El comité asesor de la Administración de Alimentos yMedicamentos de Estados Unidos (FDA por su sigla en inglés)votó el jueves a favor de recomendar la aprobación aceleradadel fármaco, que se venderá como Adcetris, para tratar ellinfoma Hodgkin.
El medicamento se comercializará para pacientes que ya sesometieron a un trasplante de células madre para tratar eseextraño cáncer de sangre. Cada año, alrededor de 9.000estadounidenses son diagnosticados con linfoma Hodgkin.
El panel decidirá más tarde el jueves si la medicacióndebería aprobarse para tratar el linfoma anaplásico de célulasgrandes (ALCL por su sigla en inglés), otro tipo de cáncersanguíneo.
La FDA, que tomará la decisión final sobre este fármaco el30 de agosto, suele seguir los consejos de sus panelesasesores.
