Las periodistas Laura Ling y Euna Lee, liberadas el martes por Corea del Norte gracias a la mediación de Bill Clinton, llegaron hoy junto con el ex presidente estadounidense al aeropuerto Bobo Hope, en Burbank (California).
Minutos antes de las 13.00 GMT, el avión que las transportó desde Corea del Norte tomó tierra en Estados Unidos donde sus familiares, así como docenas de periodistas y funcionarios congregados desde horas antes en el lugar, esperan para dar la bienvenida a Ling y Lee.
El reencuentro con sus familiares, al pie de la escalerilla del avión, seguido en directo por las cámaras de televisión, fue extremadamente emotivo, especialmente por la forma en la que la hija menor de Euna se agarró al cuello de su madre nada más verla.
Entre las personalidades que les esperaban en el aeropuerto junto a su familia, se encontraba el ex-vicepresidente Al Gore, que es el fundador de la cadena de televisión en la que trabajan.
Minutos después de que bajaran del avión las liberadas lo hizo el ex-presidente Bill Clinton, quien fue efusivamente saludado por su colega, Al Gore, así como por los familiares de las detenidas, quienes le expresaron su agradecimiento.
Ling, de 32 años, y Lee, de 36, fueron arrestadas en marzo y condenadas en junio a 12 años de prisión y a trabajos forzados por entrar ilegalmente en el país y por actividades contra Corea del Norte.
La secretaria de Estado, Hillary Clinton, que está de visita en Kenia, expresó su satisfacción por la liberación de las dos mujeres. "Hablé con mi esposo (Bill Clinton) mientras estaban volando a California, y todo salió bien", dijo Hillary quien añadió que "ellas están muy emocionadas por su pronto reencuentro con sus familias cuando lleguen a California".
