Los tres meses y medio que faltan para la elección de la sede de los Juegos de 2016, el 2 de octubre en Copenhague, serán para Madrid una continua búsqueda de votos allí donde haya algún miembro del Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI).
Los Juegos del Mediterráneo, que se celebran del 26 de junio al 5 de julio en Pescara, serán la primera escala. El alcalde de Madrid, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, se marchará el próximo jueves a la ciudad italiana para promocionar una candidatura que precisamente se declara "latina y mediterránea".
El equipo de Madrid viajará luego a la asamblea de los comités olímpicos africanos, los días 5 y 6 de julio en Abuya (Nigeria).
Los Mundiales de Natación, en Roma del 17 de julio al 2 de agosto, y los de Atletismo, en Berlín del 15 al 23 de agosto, serán sus siguientes paradas.
En la víspera de los Mundiales de Atletismo, además, la Ejecutiva del COI se reunirá en la capital alemana para decidir, entre otros asuntos, qué dos nuevos deportes propone para los Juegos de 2016, donde quiera que se disputen.
Apenas dos semanas después, el 2 de septiembre, la Comisión de Evaluación del COI para los Juegos de 2016 hará público su informe sobre Madrid, Tokio, Chicago y Río de Janeiro, las cuatro candidatas.
Aunque será un informe sin puntuaciones, sus comentarios sobre los distintos proyectos permitirá saber cuáles son los que el COI considera más preparados.
