La policía turca detuvo hoy en redadas realizadas en 16 provincias a 120 sospechosos de colaborar con la red terrorista Al Qaeda, informó la agencia semioficial Anadolu.
Entre los detenidos se encuentran también los supuestos líderes provinciales de Al Qaeda en las regiones de Van y Gaziantep, en el sureste de Turquía.
Otras detenciones se practicaron en las provincias de Estambul, Ankara, Malatya, Mersin y Sanliurfa.
Un docente de la Universidad de Van fue arrestado bajo la sospecha de ser el representante regional de la red terrorista y fue acusado de hacer propaganda a favor de Al Qaeda en Internet.
Las fuerzas de seguridad turcas pudieron realizar el operativo de hoy después de haberse incautado de unos archivos de la organización terrorista en una reciente redada en la provincia de Adana.
El lunes pasado, 21 sospechosos fueron detenidos allí y 16 de ellos fueron encarcelados.
Los detenidos, acusados de querer llevar adelante acciones armadas, gritaron lemas contra Estados Unidos e Israel cuando eran trasladados a la cárcel.
El operativo de hoy es el más grande hasta ahora lanzado contra Al Qaeda en Turquía.
Entre los detenidos hay una persona que recibió entrenamiento militar en Afganistán, precisó Anadolu.
Las fuerzas de seguridad turcas iniciaron sus investigaciones y redadas contra la infraestructura de Al Qaeda en Turquía tras los atentados suicidas en 2003 contra dos sinagogas, el consulado británico y el banco HSBC en Estambul, que causaron 58 muertos y más de 600 heridos.
El último ataque perpetrado por el grupo fue el atentado contra el consulado de Estados Unidos en Estambul en julio de 2007, que dejó tres policías y tres atacantes muertos.
