Portugal ha sufrido para doblegar a Azerbayán, al que venció por penaltis (5-4) tras empatar a tres en el tiempo reglamentario.
Portugal ha sufrido más de lo esperado para imponerse a la debutante Azerbayán, que se ha ido al descanso ganando (2-1) y a la que tuvo que superar desde el punto de penalti, donde los portugueses han demostrado una gran efectividad, de vencer España a la República Checa, habrá final ibérica.
El primer acto ha sido de dominio portugués, que ha gozado de hasta diez ocasiones claras de gol, Azerbaiyán ha aguantado con orden y, en dos contras, Thiago y Felipe han marcado los dos goles, el segundo deshaciendo el empate conseguido por Cardinal para Portugal.
La clasificación de Portugal se gestaría en la segunda parte, que empezó con Azerbayán más asentada y buscando el tercer tanto. Cuando peor estaba Portugal llegarían sus dos goles, en menos de un minuto, Joaõ Matos y Pedro Costa pondrían por delante a los portugueses, Biro Jade empataría de nuevo en el minuto 28.
De ahí al final dominio alterno y Azerbayán que acariciaba el sueño de clasificarse para la final en su primera participación en el torneo. Se agotó el tiempo reglamentario con empate, los penaltis decidirían el primer finalista y ahí no tuvo piedad Portugal, que convirtió sus cinco lanzamientos y que espera rival del República Checa - España.
