El presidente de Turquía, Abdullah Gül, pidió hoy que los culpables del ataque israelí a la "Flotilla de la Libertad" sean "castigados".
En un comunicado publicado en la web de la Presidencia de la República, Gül afirmó que el gobierno turco hará todo lo necesario para salvaguardar los derechos e intereses de los ciudadanos turcos de la flota.
Además, se reserva el derecho de pedir todas las investigaciones necesarias y el castigo a los responsables del asalto, que ha costado la vida al menos a 14 personas, según la televisión israelí.
"Condeno con rabia el uso de la fuerza por parte de las fuerzas militares de Israel contra el convoy con ayuda humanitaria a Gaza en el que viajaban miembros de organizaciones de la sociedad civil de 32 nacionalidades", dijo el jefe del Estado turco.
"Con su comportamiento, Israel ha dañado seriamente la conciencia pública internacional", añadió.
Advirtió de que Israel pone en serio riesgo el proceso de paz recién retomado con los representantes palestinos.
"Espero que el bloqueo inhumano (a Gaza) sea levantado", manifestó.
El mandatario turco pidió a aquellos con "sentido común" dentro del Estado y la política israelíes que digan "basta" a las acciones como la ocurrida hoy.
Por otro lado, hizo un llamamiento a los ciudadanos turcos a que actúen de forma solidaria y se comporten con "sentido común" en las protestas.
