La farmacéutica GlaxoSmithKline Plcenvió dos millones de dosis de vacunas contra la gripe H1N1 aprovincias de Canadá y mandará más esta semana, dijo el lunesla ministra de Salud, Leona Aglukkaq.
La funcionaria afirmó que las vacunas serían ofrecidas alpúblico una vez que se concluyan las pruebas clínicas y que elregulador federal las apruebe.
El jefe de la Oficina de Salud Pública, el doctor DavidButler-Jones, dijo que esperaba que la distribución de lasdosis comience en la primera semana de noviembre.
"Un puñado de países podrá tener acceso a algunas vacunaspara algunos de sus ciudadanos antes que nosotros. Sin embargo,nosotros tendremos vacunas disponibles para cada canadiense quela necesite y la quiera", agregó en una conferencia de prensacon Aglukkaq.
Butler-Jones indicó que 3 millones de dosis o más seríanenviadas cada semana. Canadá tiene una población de 33,7millones de personas y ha ordenado 50,4 millones de dosis aGlaxoSmithKline.
Políticos de oposición han criticado al Gobierno por nocomenzar antes la campaña de vacunación, pero Butler-Jones dijoque Canadá siguió las recomendaciones de la OrganizaciónMundial de la Salud (OMS) al iniciar la producción de la vacunacontra el H1N1 inmediatamente después de completar eldesarrollo de la vacuna contra la influenza estacional.
