Manuel Rivera (Granada,1927-Madrid,1995), uno de los más importantes representantes de la generación abstracta española de los cincuenta, dejó como legado literario sus memorias, una colección de recuerdos y experiencias ilusionantes y amargas que ahora ven la luz.
"Memorias 1928-1971" ha sido publicado dentro de la colección "Los libros de la Estrella" de la Diputación granadina y ha contado con la participación del poeta Luis García Montero y del pintor Juan Vida, quienes junto a sus hijas Elena y Marisa presentan hoy la obra.
El libro, ilustrado con fotografías personales y de su obra, recopila los recuerdos más personales del artista, que fue uno de los fundadores, en el Madrid de 1957, del grupo "El Paso" junto a los pintores Antonio Saura, Manuel Millares, Rafael Canogar, Luis Feito, Antonio Suárez, Juana Francés y Pablo Serrano, y los críticos Manuel Conde y José Ayllón.
En sus memorias incompletas, Rivera pregona el protagonismo que su ciudad natal tuvo en su vida y en su producción artística, así como su obsesión por definir su mundo como creador moderno.
Su hija Marisa aporta en este libro una cronología que permite reconstruir los hitos de su recorrido vital y artístico, en el que su infancia en Granada y su contacto con distintos materiales en aquella época conformaron su espíritu creador.
Así lo ha trasmitido a Efe Marisa Rivera, quien ha destacado también la influencia de la luz de Granada en la obra de su padre, quien con estas memorias "cicatriza sus heridas de guerra, de dolor y de muerte y vuelve a oler las lilas de su primer recuerdo con un año, y a celebrar el amor, los sueños y la pintura".
