Los relatores de Naciones Unidas expresaron hoy en un comunicado conjunto su preocupación por la creciente violencia política en Zimbabue e instaron al Gobierno a garantizar allí el respeto a los Derechos Humanos y a dialogar.
Según señalan los firmantes en dicho comunicado, "queremos expresar nuestra preocupación por los informes que muestran la extensión de la violencia política en Zimbabue, y por los obstáculos para que los ciudadanos puedan expresarse libremente en las urnas el próximo 27 de junio".
En el texto se "urge al Gobierno de Zimbabue a que asegure el respeto de los Derechos Humanos en consonancia con las leyes nacionales y con los tratados internacionales".
Asimismo, el comunicado conjunto insta al Gobierno y a la oposición a que reanuden el diálogo y encuentren una solución sostenible.
Por su parte, la Alta Comisionada de Derechos Humanos de la ONU, Louise Arbour, pidió "justicia y responsabilidad" en la respuesta a la campaña de violencia política en el país sudamericano.
Según expresó Harbour, las "serias violaciones de los Derechos Humanos atribuidas principalmente a los grupos ligados al partido gobernante, y a veces a la oposición, son inaceptables y tienen que parar inmediatamente".
