Un hombre armado con un rifle que había retenido a ocho personas como rehenes en un edificio público en la ciudad canadiense de Edmonton, en Alberta, se rindió sin ningún incidente después de 10 horas de negociación con la policía.
La policía había evacuado el edificio el miércoles después de haber recibido la información de que el hombre, descrito como un solicitante de compensación descontento de unos 30 años, había entrado en el edificio y tomado a los rehenes.
Los rehenes fueron liberaros ilesos uno a uno, informó la policía en un comunicado.
El periódico Edmonton Journal citó a un conocido del hombre diciendo que es un ex trabajador de la construcción que mantuvo un rencor durante años contra la junta, debido a un examen fallido de rodilla.
El conocido dijo que el hombre también ha estado involucrado en una larga disputa de custodia con la madre de su hijo, y recientemente amenazó con saltar desde un puente local, deteniendo el tráfico por varias horas.
