El presidente colombiano, Juan Manuel Santos, confirmó hoy la muerte del narcotraficante Pedro Guerrero, alias "Cuchillo", al que calificó de "asesino de asesinos", en una operación policial en el sur del país.
"Cayó el asesino de asesinos. Estábamos detrás de él desde hace muchos años. Se había convertido en una especie de leyenda que era inalcanzable", destacó Santos ante los periodistas y acompañado por el director de la Policía, el general Óscar Naranjo.
Santos revelo que se entregará una recompensa a las personas que colaboraron en la ubicación de "Cuchillo", quien se hizo pasar por paramilitar y a quien se le atribuyen unos 3.000 asesinatos y decenas de desplazamientos.
La policía antinarcóticos de Colombia lanzó una gran operación el día de Navidad en una zona entre las localidades de Mapiripán, en el departamento del Meta, y San José, en el vecino territorio del Guaviare, a unos 400 kilómetros de Bogotá.
En la operación murieron también los policías Edwin César Nupaque, artillero de un helicóptero, y Javier Londoño Castro, a los que Santos rindió hoy homenaje público.
En la misma operación también fueron detenidos ocho miembros de la banda que dirigía "Cuchillo" y que se hacía llamar Ejército Revolucionario Popular Antiterrorista de Colombia (ERPAC).
