Los supuestos guerrilleros maoístas que mantenían secuestrado hoy un tren con entre 400 y 700 pasajeros en el norte de la India han liberado el convoy tres horas después de haberlo retenido, informaron distintas fuentes oficiales.
"El tren ha sido liberado por los maoístas y ha salido de la estación", dijo a la agencia IANS el juez del distrito de Latehar (norte de la India) Sarvendu Tathagat. "Nadie resultó herido en ningún momento y todos los pasajeros están seguros", ha dicho el portavoz de ferrocarriles A.K. Chandra.
El suceso, acaecido en vísperas de la segunda fase de las elecciones indias, tiene lugar en el marco de una jornada de protestas convocada por la guerrilla maoísta en el norteño estado de Jharkhand y la vecina región de Bihar.
El tren ha reanudado la marcha a las 11.40 hora local (06:10 GMT), horas después de que los supuestos guerrilleros lo detuvieran en las cercanías de la estación de Hehegada, en Jharkhand.
El ferrocarril, de nueve vagones, circulaba entre las localidades de Barkakana y Mughalsarai con unos 700 pasajeros a bordo, según un oficial de ferrocarriles, aunque la agencia IANS aseguró que en realidad había unos 400 viajeros.
El secuestro del tren ha sido la más grave de las acciones violentas protagonizadas por la guerrilla desde anoche en las regiones de Jharkhand y Bihar, donde los activistas han volado varios edificios y han asesinado a un camionero.
La guerrilla maoísta, conocida como "naxalita", ha amenazado con "cortar las manos" a los ciudadanos que se atrevan a votar en los comicios indios, que han sido separados en cinco fases a lo largo de un mes por cuestiones de seguridad.
