Aclamada por los familiares que les esperaban en el aeropuerto de Barajas, la selección española de fútbol sala ha llegado esta tarde a Madrid procedente de Hungría, donde ha conquistado el campeonato de Europa, por quinta vez en su historia y tercera consecutiva.
Al grito de "campeones, campeones..", y tras hacerse esperar más de una hora sobre el horario previsto debido a que las maletas tardaban en salir, los integrantes de la selección han aparecido sobre las 15.40 en el vestíbulo de llegadas de la terminal 4 luciendo la copa que les acredita como ganadores, tras superar a Portugal (4-2) en la final disputada en la localidad húngara de Debrecen.
"La humildad, el respeto y las ganas de seguir ganando" son, a juicio de su capitán, Javi Rodríguez, el "secreto" de esta selección.
Agarrado a su trofeo particular -la Bota de Oro que se otorga al máximo goleador- Javi Rodríguez, que se despide como internacional, ha añadido a los medios que se siente "orgulloso" de haber pertenecido a esta selección y "muy agradecido" a todos sus compañeros.
Rodríguez, 35 años, ha compartido la Bota de Oro de este Europeo con Joel (Portugal), Biro Jade (Azerbaiyán) y Saad (Italia), todos ellos con cinco goles.
El seleccionador, José Venancio López Hierro, se ha mostrado esperanzado de cara al Mundial y al Europeo del 2012, porque el relevo generacional "está asegurado" y la columna vertebral "va a continuar".
El objetivo, ha añadido, es dotar a los nuevos de la "misma mentalidad ganadora y la misma unión", que es lo que "impregna el carácter de la selección", de la que también se jubila Daniel.
